It is important to understand that the Word of God is a law that binds all things together (Joshua 1:8, Deut 17:18,19, Deut 31:24, 26, Joshua 8:34).
Sin is also a law, as the scripture says that the law of the spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2; Romans 7:25).
It is important to understand why sin is a law. Additionally, it is essential to also discuss how man yields to the law of sin.
The scripture says that “the soul that sin shall die” (Ezekiel 18:20). Also, Apostle Paul said “who will rescue me from this body of sin” (Romans 7:24).
From these two scriptures (Ezekiel 18:20; Romans 7:24) we can see that sin is committed in the soul and body of a man.
Let us look at the life of the first man (Adam) that sinned against God and as a result, sin entered the world (Romans 5:12).
It began when Eve saw the tree of life was good for food, as it was pleasant to the eyes because it could make one wise. She took of its fruit and ate it and also gave it to her husband Adam to eat (Genesis 3:6).
Therefore, the body of sin started from the beginning with man, which is highlighted in Romans 7:24. Eve used her eyes to see and desire the fruit on the tree (Romans 6:13). It is important to note that the eyes is a member of the body of a man (Romans 6:13).
The soul played a role when the eyes saw the fruit was desirable, Eve used her mind to process what her eyes saw. In her mind she was convinced by the lies of Satan and she surrendered her will and ate the fruit (1 Thessalonians 5:23, Genesis 1:26, Genesis 2:7).
The law of sin was developed when God said to man “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17). We must understand that every spoken Word of God is a spiritual law (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 17:18-19, Deuteronomy 31:24, 26, Joshua 8:34).
The law of sin is what Jesus came on earth to destroy, as the scripture says that “the first man Adam, became a living person; the last Adam became a life giving spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45).
As believers, we have died with Christ, so we must believe that we also live with Him (Romans 6:8). Since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die again because death has no power over him (Romans 6:9).
We must also consider ourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ (Romans 6:11). Sin has no power over you again because the power of sin is broken through Christ.
The Holy spirit is the guarantee of our first instalment of our faith that makes us alive to God through His fellowship in our spirit man (Ephesians 1:13-14, Ezekiel 36:26).
We are now alive to God in Christ as it is written “I will put my law within them and write my law on their hearts and minds, I will be there God and they will be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33).
God’s law is written in our heart and mind through the Holy Spirit (Jeremiah 31:33), so when we yield to The Holy Spirit and the Word of God, he helps us to overcome temptation and live above sin.
“Or do you not know that if you present yourself as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death or obedience resulting in righteousness” (Romans 6:16).
