GALATIANS 5

Galatians 5

It is important for us to stand firmly in our freedom from the law through the blood of Jesus and not return to being slaves to sin. If the law was a requirement for salvation then Christ would be of no benefit to us and then we would be under the obligation to keep the law.

As a result of this, we will be distant from Christ and fall from Grace if we seek freedom from ours sins and its penalty and want to be in righteousnes standing with God. Not possible under the law‼️

In Christ, none of the requirements of the law matters because by the power of the Holy Spirit, and activated faith we have the hope of righteousness.

⚠️Paul used himself as an example and explained that if he was still preaching the law (circumcision/works of the flesh) then he wouldn’t have been persecuted for preaching the cross because it goes against the belief of Jews.

Paul emphaised that Christ has given us freedom from the works of our flesh as we are now functioning under the Grace of God, therefore we shouldn’t abuse Grace and use our freedom to engage in sinful activities. Rather we should use our freedom to walk in love and seek the best for our neighbours because the whole law is anchored on 1 of 2 important commandment “Love thy neighbour as thy self”.

When we walk by the Spirit of God we do not fulfil the desires of our flesh such as sexual immorality, envy, jealousy, anger, strife (just to name a few), because these are in conflict with the fruits of the Spirit, and causes us to be far from the Kingdom of God.

The fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, self control, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, which is an expression of the presence of God in our lives.

So if we say Christ abides in us then our flesh has been crucified and we do not fulfill our fleshly desires/appetite (Galatians 2:20), rather we walk in godly character (loving our neighbours) empowered by the Holy Spirit
