There is power in what we say and the words we speak. Let me prove this to you.
“..The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light…”
Genesis 1:2-3 AMP
At the beginning, the world had no shape or form until God SPOKE his word and then things changed. God also spoke you and I into existence at the beginning of creation.
Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26 AMP
That’s the same power that God has given you and I. We have been given the power to speak life into any situations and circumstances for a turnaround.
“..Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words…”
Proverbs 18:21 AMP
This is why we have to be very careful of what we say into the atmosphere. It’s very common that we say unpleasant things to ourselves when we are feeling low in mood, stressed, heartbroken, betrayed or disappointed (e.g. I’m not good enough, I’m ugly, I’m a failure, nobody wants me, I’m better off not being here etc.). On the flip side, we equally say unpleasant things about other people and situations (e.g. he’s good for nothing, she’s an idiot, my marriage is failing, our children are useless) and the list can go on and on.
When we speak these negative words to ourselves, other people or situations, what do we expect to happen? As it is written in Proverbs 18:21, life and death are in our tongues so whatever we speak with our mouths will manifest in the physical.
We have to be very conscious of our words and train ourselves to speak positive things even if we don’t feel like it at that moment. A wise man once said that “we should speak what we want to see and not what we currently see”. Even if situations are bad, we have to speak against it by speaking life. THAT’S FAITH!!
For we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]
2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP
We shouldn’t say things based on what we see with our physical eyes rather with what we see with our spiritual eyes. We were created by a God who has the ability to speak LIFE into dead situations and that power was given to us.
“..I have made you a father of many nations in the sight of Him in whom he believed, that is, God who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist..’ Romans 4:17 AMP
So let’s make the decision to change the narrative of our lives and situations around us because we have the power to speak LIFE.
Lets us pray together:
Lord Jesus, help us to always remember your word and the power you are given us in our tongues. Empower us to use our words to speak LIFE and not death towards ourselves, other people and situations. Continue to teach us how to increase our faith so that we can speak based on what we see spiritually and not what we see physically. Holy Spirit, you are our helper, teacher and friend; and we invite you into our hearts, our minds and life so that we can truly function in the likeness and image our maker, in Jesus name. Amen!
