The scripture let us know that the heart of men is where God looks and He is not interested in our outward appearance.
See scriptural references;
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7 AMP
I, the Lord , search and examine the mind, I test the heart, To give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.
Jeremiah 17:10 AMP
The heart of man is the spirit of a man and it is where the believers journey with God takes place.
See scriptural references:
“..rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
I Peter 3:4 NKJV
THINGS OUR HEART CAN DO?
FAITH IS OF THE HEART
The scripture let us know that faith is of the heart. See scriptural proof
“For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.”
Romans 10:10 AMP
WE LOVE FROM OUR HEART
We also love with our heart. See scriptural proof
“Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
Matthew 22:37 NKJV
PRAYER IS RELEASED FROM THE HEART
Our prayers are released from the heart. See scriptural proofs
“Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,”
Luke 18:1 NKJV
WE PRAISE GOD FROM THE HEART.
We also give thanks and praise from our heart. See scripture
I will give thanks and praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; And will glorify Your name forevermore.
Psalms 86:12 AMP
THE WORD OF GOD IS KEPT IN THE HEART.
The word of God is kept in the heart for it to manifest in a believers life. See scripture
“Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 AMP
HOW DO WE EXAMINE OUR HEART TO ENSURE IT IS OF GOD?
The entrance of the word of God gives light and understanding.
The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
Psalms 119:130 NKJV
The word of God is like the heart of a man (mortal man) that enables other parts of the body to function. When it’s stops the life of a man stops.
The word of God is what enables a believer to live according to the will of God. Therefore, from the word of God comes faith, righteousness, love, prayer, and all what is required of us to live according to the will of God.
From this viewpoint we can examine our heart with the parable of the sower Jesus explained in Matthew 13:18-23. I like to call this parable “THE TEST OF HEART”
Jesus explained this parable into four distinct categories and from this points, we can test/examine where we belong.
1. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom [regarding salvation] and does not understand and grasp it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.
2. The one on whom seed was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and at once welcomes it with joy; yet he has no [substantial] root in himself, but is only temporary, and when pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles and falls away [abandoning the One who is the source of salvation].
3. And the one on whom seed was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the worries and distractions of the world and the deceitfulness [the superficial pleasures and delight] of riches choke the word, and it yields no fruit.
4. And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands and grasps it; he indeed bears fruit and yields, some a hundred times [as much as was sown], some sixty [times as much], and some thirty.”
