WHEN YOU SPEAK IN TONGUES

When you speak in tongues (the Holy Ghost) you are communicating to God (1 Corinthians 14:2). John 4:24 highlights that God is Spirit and whoever worships God must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

From this verse it identifies that man has a spirit. To support this, 1 Thesalonians 5:23 highlights that man is a living soul and we were created as spirit, soul and body.

The scripture points out that the first instalment of our faith is the presence of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:14). This Holy Spirit resides in the spirit of a man (Romans 8:16). Therefore, from these verses we can see that the Holy Spirit and the spirit of a man is in perfect union.

Man’s ability to speak in tongues is as a result of the manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Apostles first experienced the Holy Spirit in the upper room (Acts 2:4). We must carefully take note of (Acts 2:4) which says “…and the Holy Spirit gave them ability to speak…” This statement confirms what was spoken in (1 Corinthians 14:2), that whoever prays in spirit prays to God.

Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:15 “..I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with my mind…” This verse is a revelation of a spiritual warfare occuring because spiritual warfare is carried out in the realm of the mind. When we put this scripture into practice, it reveals the state of our minds. When we pray in the spirit and use our mind to pray in understanding, our mind will be flooded/illumintated with light by the help of the Holy Spirit and we will gain insight about the state of our mind, as illustrated in 1 Cortinthains 2:11, which says “..No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit…”

Speaking in tongues (the Holy ghost) and also praying with our mind helps a believer to go beyond their physical senses, and allows carnal prayers (focused on fleshly desires) to be easily identified (1 Corinthians 14:2)

When we adequately pray in the spirit and in understanding it allows a believer to discern Satan’s plan for their life as this will be revealed in the realm of the mind which contradicts the Word of God.

In 1 Corinthians 14:4 NLT, it says “…whoever speaks in tongues is strenghtened personally…”. When we speak in tongues the spirit of a man becomes stronger, sensitive and responsive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
